From Sororities To The GRE, This College Advice Will Help You Master It All

For millions of young people, the adjustment to college life from under the wing of their parents can be a challenge. College life requires a mature, responsible approach to academics as well as developing the life skills that adulthood demands. Use the advice found here to help you make the transition to adulthood go smoothly.

Make sure you are up on all the different scholarships and grants you may be eligible for. You would be surprised at the number of specific scholarships on offer today (e.g. there’s even a scholarship for “lefties”!) Scholarships and grants are things that don’t have to be repaid.

Educate yourself about the career of your choice before you choose a college. This will help you set the foundation for your college choice in the future. If you are in doubt, talk to an admissions director.

Do not choose a college or university because it is popular, because your friends or relatives went there or because you are a fan of their football team. There are other important factors you need to take into consideration such as your funding, the kind of career you want or the area where schools are located.

Get as involved as possible with the students on campus and with certain organizations in the school. This is very important as you do not want to be tagged as a social outcast with nothing to do during the day. This will help you to make friends and feel like a part of the university.

Get enough rest. College and all-nighters go hand in hand, but it is important that you get enough rest. You’ll have bad behavior and forget many things, if you don’t get enough sleep.

Get a bus pass. It might not take longer using the bus. You also save time from not having to search for somewhere on campus to park. You will also never have to pay the high gas prices or for parking. This is also a good way to do something for the planet.

Take advantage of the office hours offered by your academic instructors. These hours are provided for your benefit. There is no better source of help or information about a class than the person who teaches it! Use the time to ask questions, seek clarification, or discuss your in-class performance.

Download foreign language learning podcasts and MP3 lessons onto your MP3 player or tablet. Listen to the lessons while driving or riding the bus to school. This will help prepare you for your foreign language classes. You can practice pronunciation, and work on vocabulary instead of wasting your travel time.

Many college students gain at least 15 pounds during their freshmen year. Steer clear of sugary items and processed foods. Instead, opt for fresh fruits and crisp vegetables as great snack alternatives. Protein is important, too, but you need other options.

These tips should help a student avoid some of the pitfalls that afflict new college students. College life is one of the important milestones in a person’s life and not everyone makes the adjustment well. Use the tips you read here to make this challenging time both productive and enjoyable. Your future depends on it.
